Mentoring or Training
Training
- Structured learning process.
- Practitioner teaches, demonstrates, and assesses.
- Learner performs the skill independently.
- Builds new skills for safe, equitable access to technology.
- Examples: Learning JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ZoomText, etc.
Mentoring
- Coaching and guidance for someone who already has the skill.
- Not formal skill development or assessment.
- Example: Supporting refinement of an existing workflow.

Last year, the NDIS blurred training and mentoring. Training teaches and
assesses new skills like JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, Fusion, or VoiceOver.
Mentoring is coaching for someone who already has the skill.
Orientation & Mobility is specialised training, not therapy. Access
Technology must be recognised as training.
