Balance & Exercise Physiology – The Importance of balance for People Who are Blind or Low Vision
In this video, we visit Active EP in Ringwood to learn why exercise physiology and good balance are crucial for people who are blind or have low vision.
Exercise helps them recover from falls and improves their balance, reducing the likelihood of falling in the first place. Additionally, by engaging in weight-bearing exercises, their bones and muscles become stronger, decreasing the risk of fractures.
Over the past three years, this program has significantly improved my strength and fitness. It has made balancing easier, helped me get in and out of low vehicles while travelling, and generally made moving around the community more manageable. These aspects are vital for individuals with sensory disabilities such as blindness or low vision.
